- Hitchin Girls’ was founded in 1889 and moved to its present location in 1907. It is part of a consortium with Hitchin Boys’ School and The Priory School for sixth-form teaching.
- A sports hall, comprising a four-court hall, dance studio and fitness suite; a ten-classroom teaching block; an enlarged dining area; and a science laboratory were added in 2018, followed by another laboratory in 2021.
- Students and staff belong to one of eight houses that compete for a cup each year by scoring points for individual achievement, charity fundraising and sporting success.
- Pupils raised £10,772 for charities in 2024-25, and are encouraged to participate in events such as Jeans for Genes day, Breast Cancer Now: Wear It Pink day and Save the Children Christmas jumper day.
- The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme heads up a long list of extracurricular activities which includes music, indoor and outdoor sports, art, classics, design, drama, the environment, science, reading, chess and cookery. Form running, a relay race for pupils at the end of term, is a school tradition that began in 1920.
