- Founded in 1565 as Huntingdon Grammar School — where, at its previous site in Huntingdon, Oliver Cromwell and Samuel Pepys were pupils — today Hinchingbrooke School is a mixed state secondary with over 2,000 students. Set in acres of grounds adjoining a country park in Cambridgeshire, the sixth form is based in Hinchingbrooke House, a stately home with links to the Cromwell family and the Earls of Sandwich.
- The school has a strong record of providing support for children with a wide variety of needs and has achieved two School Impact Awards: the Gold Pupil Wellbeing Award and the Gold Staff Wellbeing Award.
- There’s a wide variety of extracurricular clubs, from science and cooking to darts and diversity. Sports activities include rugby, football, netball, hockey and pickleball, and students can also participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
- Pupils are encouraged to get involved in all aspects of school life, from becoming a class rep to an anti-bullying ambassador. In September 2025 a new fortnightly newsletter, The Stag, was launched “with content created by students, for students”, as well as the opening of the Lantern, a purpose-built community base with a weekly timetable of student-led events and expert drop-in sessions by the careers team.
