- Formed in 1904 as Ashford County School for Girls, it moved to its present site in 1928 and changed its name in 1973.
- The school motto is Ad caelestia sequere (Reach for the stars), which is reflected in the school’s “Reach” values: reflective, eager, aiming, considerate and happy.
- Sports on offer include cricket, lacrosse and golf, with tuition from a PGA pro coach at Ashford Golf Club.
- Highworth has its own science magazine, High Sci, to which pupils contribute articles.
- Former pupils include the rally driver Penny Mallory and the actress Patsy Byrne, who played Nursie in Blackadder II.
