- The school is named after the 19th-century German-born British astronomers and composers, William and Caroline Herschel, a brother and sister who identified the planet Uranus and several comets.
- More than 40 languages are spoken among pupils at the school, which draws pupils from a diverse catchment area in Slough, west London and Reading. Nearly half have English as an additional language.

- The school’s projects to improve recycling and create bug hotels in the grounds have helped to achieve the Eco Schools Green Flag Award with merit.
