“Leaders and staff collaborate very well to set highly ambitious goals. Pupils enjoy the wide range of subjects. They receive the high-quality encouragement and support that they need to achieve increasingly well. They spoke highly of the many opportunities that they get to learn about staying safe. Pupils believe that staff care about them. They said that staff are approachable and highly supportive. Pupils look after each other well and said that behaviour is much better than in the past. Bullying and other harmful behaviours are uncommon, but if they do occur, staff deal with such incidents effectively.”

*Ofsted no longer makes an overall effectiveness judgment in inspections of state-funded schools. A five-point grading scale, including a new “exceptional” grade was introduced in November 2025.

About the school

Following a “requires improvement” rating from Ofsted in 2018, Hazel Grove High School joined the Laurus Trust, a multi-academy trust supported by the millionaire businessman and philanthropist Andrew Law. The trust is committed to providing an exceptional academic education to its group of schools across Stockport, Manchester, Tameside and Cheshire East.
The sports centre, which is open to the community outside of school hours, offers a wide range of indoor facilities including badminton, basketball, a gym, a 3G astro pitch and a dance studio.
Laurus Trust schools offer an elite sport pathway in partnership with Loughborough University, teaching students how to live, learn and train like a professional student-athlete.
The school’s Apertura programme, taking its name from Latin, meaning “opportunities about to open”, is designed to help high-achieving students prepare for applications to competitive universities such as Oxford and Cambridge.
