- Nothing less than a thorough preparation for life is the goal at this non-selective coeducational state boarding school.
- Founded in Woking, Surrey, in 1885 as a boys’ school in tribute to the war hero Major-General Charles George Gordon, the school maintains a unique tradition: an annual parade down Whitehall in central London behind a 50-strong pipes and drums band. All pupils join the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) in year 10.
- Outdoor adventures are a speciality. As well as participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, pupils can try orienteering, the Ten Tors challenge or rifle marksmanship.
- Sports facilities are outstanding, including all-weather pitches and a new sports hub. Everyone is encouraged to make the most of the many sporting activities on offer, which include Brazilian jiu-jitsu, yoga and Zumba. Sports scholarships are available for pupils who are talented in rugby, football, hockey, golf, tennis or cricket.
- On the creative side, there are more than 150 annual performances, workshops and trips for choir, music, dance and drama groups — and scholarships include one for exceptional ability on the bagpipes.
