“Pupils happily attend George Abbot School. They respect their teachers and behave well in lessons. Pupils take their studying seriously and try to get the most out of their experiences at school. Teachers expect a lot from pupils. High proportions of pupils are involved in a wide variety of clubs and after-school activities. Pupils enjoy going to sports clubs, performing arts clubs and music clubs ... Most pupils go into the school’s sixth form where they have a wide choice of courses ... Students achieve extremely well in the sixth form, and they play a big part in the life of the school.”

About the school

Coeducational and non-selective, George Abbot School has about 2,000 pupils aged 11-18 drawn from the community of Burpham in Guildford, Surrey.
The school is named after a 17th-century Archbishop of Canterbury from the area.
Its motto, Non sibi sed toti (“Not for oneself, but for all”), underpins the school’s commitment to service, participation and collective responsibility.
George Abbot has a strong sporting tradition. A programme run in partnership with Surrey County Cricket Club allows promising players (boys or girls) to study in the sixth form while benefiting from the club’s coaching, strength and conditioning, and employability workshops.
