“The school seeks to develop in each pupil the knowledge and skills they will need to thrive as global citizens in their adult world. Pupils develop at least a good level of knowledge, skills and understanding across all areas of learning, applying what they have learned accurately and appropriately in different contexts. Pupils of all ages use their skills confidently across their subjects. Pupils have excellent study skills, supported by the individual and ambitious pathways they develop with their tutors in tutorial sessions. Pupils’ achievements in academic and other activities are excellent. Pupils have excellent self-confidence and self-understanding, exhibiting a calm, mature self-confidence throughout the school. They are eager to improve their learning, take an active role planning their futures and support others in the community to do the same.”

About the school

  • Opened in 1864 in Suffolk, Framlingham College was originally the county’s memorial to Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert. It was known as the Albert Memorial College at the time.
  • Approximately 400 pupils attend the co-ed senior school, with an intake of international students from 19 countries. A range of boarding options are available.
  • Students describe life at Framlingham as “varied, collaborative, busy, supportive … fun, inspiring and challenging”.
  • Pupils complete more than 10,000 volunteering hours annually. Running the Framlingham Community Garden, visiting elderly residents and helping disabled people are among the activities.
  • Studio Sapientia Crescit, the school’s motto, translates as “wisdom grows through study”.
