Verdict
Excellent
“The school aims to inspire endeavour, confidence and ambition through a broad-based curriculum and nurturing environment, which ensures all pupils are recognised, listened to and understood within a community that values the development of spiritual and social understanding. Pupils demonstrate excellent levels of academic progress [and their] knowledge, skills and understanding across a broad range of subjects is excellent. Most pupils work at levels well beyond their chronological age and clearly relish the challenges this presents. Pupils’ communication skills are of a particularly high standard.”

About the school

  • The history of Emanuel begins in 1594, with a £300 bequest from Elizabeth I’s lady-in-waiting Anne Dacre. The school moved to its present site in Wandsworth, southwest London, in 1883. Originally boys-only, it has been open to girls since 1995.
  • Emanuel won the Talk Education Award 2024 for innovation in equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • The sporting facilities include 26 acres of playing fields, a full-size all-weather pitch, ten cricket nets and a boat house at Barnes Bridge on the Thames.
  • Among a stellar cast of Old Emanuels are Sir Tim Berners-Lee, who invented of the World Wide Web, the chef Michel Roux Jr, and Mark Baker, the co-creator of Peppa Pig.
  • One in four pupils qualifies for a bursary, which can cover up to 100 per cent of fees.
