- Denstone College opened in 1868 as a boys’ boarding school and the hall and chapel from which it operates are grade II-listed neo-gothic style buildings built by William Slater and Richard Carpenter. The grounds cover 150 acres of rural Staffordshire.
- Day boys and girls were admitted to the school in 1976 and girls’ boarding was launched five years later. Facilities include a nine-hole golf course, which opened in 1992; over the years, the school has continued to develop its real estate and university-style girls boarding accommodation has been a particular hit.
- Its pupils aged 4-18 are described as having “Denstonacity” – the ambition to explore every possible version of themselves.
- In 2001 David Edwards, a former physics teacher at the school, became the first man to win a million pounds on the TV gameshow Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.
- Scholarships are awarded for entry into year 9 and 12 for academic excellence as well as for art, drama, design and technology, music and sport. There are hardship bursaries in place too.
