About the school

  • Dame Allan's Schools are the only schools in northeast England that follow the “diamond structure” of education, combining co-ed and single-sex education: boys and girls learn together in the junior school, separately between the ages of 11 and 16, and together in the sixth form.
  • One in five exams taken by Year 13 pupils earned an A* grade, and 70 per cent of all exams sat were marked A* to B. Four students gained places at Oxford and Cambridge.
  • Activities run after school and during lunchtimes, evenings and weekends vary from traditional sports to cultural, interest and career-focused clubs, such as drama, music, art, skating, fencing, laser pistol, chess, flowers, young reporters, rowing, karate, Model UN and even bees, thanks to a new beehive.
  • Senior pupils can access sessions with on-site counsellors and learning support services. There is also a helping paw from the school’s therapy dogs, Poppy and Heidi. Sixth-form students are trained in listening skills so they can offer peer support to younger pupils.
  • A Level 2 Certificate in further mathematics is also available, as is the Level 3 Extended Project Qualification.
  • Means-tested bursaries, worth up to 100 per cent of fees, and scholarships, offering a discount of up to 50 per cent, are awarded based on academic merit.
