- The college was established in 1960 and embodies the innovative Cambridgeshire model placing lifelong learning and community engagement at the heart of school life. It is now an academy with about 2,000 pupils aged 11-18.
- The overriding aim is for pupils to become “caring, confident and capable”. Although academic outcomes are strong, Ofsted inspectors noted in 2024 that “pupils are not taught just to pass exams”. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme at Comberton Village College is the largest in the region offering all three tiers.
- In 2023 Comberton became the first school in the UK to be heated by a ground-source heat pump, a £3.1 million installation that has reduced its carbon emissions by 70 per cent and positioned the school as a national leader in sustainability.
