- Founded in 1546 by the Feoffees of Colyton, one of the 80 oldest charities still operating in England, the school moved to its present site in 1929, becoming the first purpose-built school in England in the 20th century.
- The school motto is Esse quam videri (“To be rather than to seem”).
- Pupils are assigned to one of five houses, giving them a chance to make friends in different years and compete in inter-house activities such as music, sports, drama, quizzes and charitable fundraising.
- Sustainability is taken seriously at the school, which has fitted solar panels, LED lighting and light sensors, insulated cavity walls and removed single-use plastics across the site.
- This year 27 students — almost 20 per cent of the year group — secured places at Oxford or Cambridge.
