- Formed in 1986 through the merger of the Henry Thornton and Hydeburn schools, Chestnut Grove became the UK’s first visual arts college in 1996, and in 2011 converted to an academy.
- Each year 60 students are selected for admission based on their aptitude in art and design or language. The house system uses the names of renowned artists, including Da Vinci, Blake and Kahlo.
- Music is also a priority and the school works closely with Wandsworth Music Academy to offer individual lessons in a variety of instruments. It has numerous steel pan bands too, in which more than 200 students take part.
- Chestnut Grove is proud of its status as a Unicef UK Gold Rights Respecting School. Its ethos is underpinned by the UN Convention on Rights of a Child. A “pluralism of perspective” fosters an inclusive environment for children, regardless of sex, sexuality, disability and religious beliefs.
- Famous former students include the Grammy-winning singer Adele, who went on to attend the Brit school.
