About the school

  • Channing School is a girls’ day school in Highgate, north London. Its strapline is, “Girls enjoying success”, and it says its “pupils (and staff) are both interesting and interested, aware of and engaged with the world around them”.
  • Education at the school is holistic: the academic side of life is important but the wider educational experience encompasses clubs, music, sport, raising money for charities and working with partners.
  • The school is a close and supportive community and the pastoral system ensures that year groups work collaboratively, creating a respectful partnership between pupils and staff. Older pupils provide peer mentoring and lead activities and discussion sessions during form time. Year 7 pupils are allotted a “big sibling” from Year 8, which ensures that any issues causing concern can be raised.
  • Academic and music scholarships are awarded from ages 11 and 16, and art scholarships at 16-plus. Means-tested financial support of up to 100 per cent is available.
