About the school

  • In 2024 the author and former pupil Louis de Bernières opened the college's new St Andrew's Study Centre, which features a presentation space with tiered seating and a mezzanine and seminar room for group discussions.
  • There are 30 physical activities available and most of the school is involved in weekly sports fixtures. A strong arts programme includes a range of bands and choirs, several plays every year and regular dance shows. Other activities include the Combined Cadet Force, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, community service, volunteering and outreach projects.
  • An extensive programme of clubs and societies is led by pupils and staff, ranging from debating to screenwriting, astronomy to stained glass making.
  • Pastoral care is rooted in the 12 houses, where day and boarding pupils mix under the care of house leaders and tutors. Wellbeing sessions, often responding to contemporary issues, are delivered by specialised staff with backgrounds in counselling, safeguarding and A&E. Nurse and GP support and overnight care is available at the medical centre.
  • Individual or a combination of academic, art and design, drama, music and sports scholarships are available, as well as means-tested bursaries worth up to 100 per cent of tuition fees.
