“Bournemouth School for Girls is a joyous place. Pupils flourish academically and socially. They are passionate about their learning and embrace the multitude of wider development opportunities that the school provides. All pupils feel welcome and valued ... Pupils know that the school expects ‘the best for, and from, them’. They strive to live this vision … Pupils have an impressive knowledge of the highly ambitious curriculum that they learn. They complete high-quality work and achieve very well. Sixth-form students gain the qualifications they need to move on to their destinations of choice. These include the most academically selective universities.”

*Ofsted no longer makes an overall effectiveness judgment in inspections of state-funded schools. A five-point grading scale, including a new “exceptional” grade was introduced in November 2025.

About the school

This girls’ grammar balances a strong academic record with success in the performing arts and sport. In 2025, the school’s netballers competed at regional level.
BSG has a half-termly newspaper, written and edited by students, in which they are able to express what matters to them.
Performing arts are a strength and there are numerous choirs, bands — including rock and jazz — strings and percussion groups.
More than 50 clubs run at lunchtimes and after school, covering crafts, adventure, Stem subjects, knitting, boxing, ethics and learning Mandarin Chinese. Many pupils join the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
The school’s careers programme is aimed at preparing all students for the changing world of work.
