- John Wordsworth, the Bishop of Salisbury, founded this grammar with 45 boys in 1890. Now, there are about 1,200 pupils, including girls in the sixth form.
- Next door to Salisbury Cathedral, the school provides a regional centre of excellence for academic study, music, sport, arts and adventurous activities. It has a particularly large group of students who participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme and the Ten Tors challenge.
- Sport is exceptional. Pupils are encouraged to join in at all levels and teams regularly do well against regional and national competition. Every two years, the sports department takes a large group of about 18 students on a tour abroad — previously visiting Japan, Australia, Argentina, Italy and Canada.
- The choir is made up of about 80 students, and pupils can also join orchestras, string ensembles, and wind and jazz bands.
