- BVGS is approaching its 500th anniversary, having been founded in 1527 — it is one of the oldest schools in the West Midlands and is named after its founder, John Vesey, a Bishop of Exeter, who was born in Sutton Coldfield.
- The school has been on its current site since 1729, and the most recent addition is a £6.2 million sixth-form learning resource centre, completed in 2025.
- The motto, Dextra dei exaltavit me, translates as “The right hand of God exalts me”.
- Old Veseyans include the television and radio presenters Cat Deeley and Bill Buckley.
