- Birkdale, a co-ed school and sixth form in Sheffield, was founded in 1904 as a boys’ prep school and first admitted girls in 2020.
- The senior school is split into Lower School (Years 7 and 8) and Middle School (Years 9-11), and each has its own buildings and common areas. The school has strong ties with Nepal, in particular the Peace Garden School, for which Birkdale raised money to fund a new building.
- Sports facilities include a hall with badminton, basketball and volleyball courts and a five-a-side pitch, plus 30 acres of playing fields for rugby, football and cricket. Climbing indoors and in the Peak District is also available.
- Academic, music and sports scholarships are available at age 11 and again in the sixth form, with a maximum total fee remission from one or more scholarships of 25 per cent. Individual awards usually range from 5-15 per cent of fees.
- Old Birkdalians include the actor Rex Harrison, the Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson and the Monty Python member and writer Michael Palin.
