What the school inspection says

Date of report
2013
Verdict *
Good
“The good quality of the pupils’ achievements and standards is evident in a number of key strengths. There is an effective focus on nurturing all aspects of the pupils’ development and, as a consequence, their ability to work independently and persist systematically in their learning is good. They are keen to mentor and support each other in their learning. An effective emphasis is placed on the development of the pupils’ literacy and numeracy. The school has important strengths in most of its educational and pastoral provision and its very good leadership, governance and management.”

About the school

  • There are about 60 extracurricular clubs available covering sports and music, as well as coding, bridge, the Duke of Edinburgh’s scheme, dance, drama, lifesaving, water polo and fantasy art. New clubs include horticulture and eco-warriors.
  • Volunteering is a focus for development as we know the importance of pupils giving back to their local community.
  • The school has invested in Solihull Approach training for all staff, and in Tooled Up Education. The pastoral team is experienced and there is a clear structure in place. Pupils cover pastoral issues in a weekly tutorial programme that also deals with relationships and sex education (RSE).
  • Sixth-form students can take part in a mentoring programme for younger pupils, both inside and outside school.
