- The specialist sports and humanities college Barking Abbey School was founded as one of the first coeducational grammar schools in England; in 1970, it merged with Park Modern School. Its sixth form offers A-levels and BTec courses, and a number of career pathways are available on specific programmes designed to give support, direction and tailored industry advice in pupils’ chosen fields. A bespoke careers programme is provided for each year group.
- The school prides itself on having a strong pastoral curriculum, which includes opportunities for character education, as well as the chance to take age-appropriate mental health modules, and those for building resilience.
- Barking Abbey runs a series of sports academies for football, netball, dance and basketball, which combine “a unique blend of academic study, expert coaching, personalised training and high-quality competition”, with pupils going on to professional clubs and international university scholarships.
