- Ballymena’s unique physical recreation strategy aims to create a new generation of healthy young people who choose to stay active for the rest of their lives. Not only does the academy have a reputation for academic and sporting excellence, but puts the emphasis on fun — with activities from canoeing and showjumping, to cheerleading and Zumba.
- More than 350 pupils perform in choirs and ensembles. Members of the Young Environmentalist Society grow their own vegetables in the school polytunnel and plant trees in the extensive grounds. Participation rates in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme is high and a range of trips offer cultural experiences.
- Students also take part in volunteering and fundraising activities, including an annual talent show.
- Additions to the curriculum, which are reviewed each year, have included Mandarin Chinese, software systems development, sports science, government and politics, and skills development courses.
