“Pupils flourish in this exceptional school. They are proud to attend, and demonstrate strong levels of commitment to their education. Leaders eloquently articulate the purpose and values of the school. They have high expectations for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (Send) ... There is an abundance of opportunities designed to develop and nurture pupils’ character and talents ... The ‘student committee for change’ is highly regarded. As part of this, pupils make a significant contribution to school development priorities, such as promoting equality and diversity.”

About the school

This boys’ grammar, founded in 1598, teams up with the girls’ school, Aylesbury High, for concerts, plays, dances and theatre visits.
Trips overseas — both educational and recreational — are a high point of the boys’ school years. In 2024-25 trips were scheduled to visit Washington, Iceland, Berlin, Madrid and Malawi.
The AGS learning strategy is based on five key principles underpinning effective learning: ownership, courage, resilience, innovation and motivation.
The student committee for change leads initiatives to make sure that every student feels they belong, whatever their race, gender identity or ability.
Sports teams have had national success in handball, squash, swimming, cross-country, tennis and athletics.
