- This school, in York, puts service and learning about other people’s lives and supporting them at the core of its ethos. In 2024, pupils walked 50 miles over the moors to raise money — it paid for a trip to Alton Towers with pupils from a school for children with physical or learning disabilities.
- As well as after-school activities and clubs, every Friday the whole school takes part in activities all afternoon to allow sufficient time to make real progress in areas such as sport, music and theatre. Other opportunities range from an equestrian team to classes in ceramics and stained glass.
- Pupils can learn to fly a plane, take dance classes or help in various community service projects.
- Boarding houses form the core support community, where each child is nurtured by a dedicated team. Ampleforth’s unique Christian Living programme builds on the teachings of St Benedict, who provided a practical guide to finding meaning and purpose in life.
- Sibling discounts on fees are available and there’s a 20 per cent discount for forces or service families in receipt of the Continuity of Education Allowance.
