- Edward Alleyn, an Elizabethan actor and contemporary of Shakespeare, founded Alleyn's College of God’s Gift in Dulwich, southeast London, in 1619. The modern-day Alleyn’s School separated from that college, now known as Dulwich College, in 1882, and became co-ed in 1976 — one of the first British independent schools to do so.
- Alleyn’s motto is “All we can be”, and its values are summed up by the acronym Rocck: respect, opportunity, courage, curiosity and kindness.
- Education and learning sit hand in hand with innovation. The school has developed an AiQ (Alleyn’s Intelligence Quotient) curriculum and is establishing a global network of partners for collaborating with leading experts to bring new ideas, technologies and disciplines into the global classroom.
- A new lower school building opened in 2018 and won a Royal Institute of British Architects London Award. Two junior school buildings developed in 2022 included eco-friendly features including solar panels and a heat pump.
- Alleyn Old Boys and Girls include the actor Jude Law and the singer Florence Welch.
