- The school was founded in 1597 by Richard Platt, owner of a City of London brewery. It is set in 110 acres of Hertfordshire countryside but is only 13 miles from central London.
- Aldenham School Football Club was founded in 1825, when it wrote the second oldest football code, after Eton. It can therefore claim to be one of the oldest football clubs in the world.
- Interior scenes from several films have been shot at the school, including If.... (1968), Schooldays (2005) and Greed (2019).
- Notable Old Aldenhamians include TV and radio broadcaster Dale Winton and Baroness Karren Brady, vice-chair of West Ham United FC.
