The school’s vision of ‘nurturing aspiration, achievement and opportunity for all’ permeates throughout the whole organisation. Pupils meet these expectations consistently. Pupils love learning. They benefit from an exceptional curriculum. They are completely engaged in lessons and are enthusiastic learners. … Pupils welcome opportunities to extend their experiences wherever possible. About the school

  • The co-educational selective state school for 11 to 18-year-olds is located in Alcester, Warwickshire, a 30-minute train journey from Stratford-upon-Avon.
  • Ofsted’s most recent report in 2022 stated that AGS is “a thriving and happy place” and “pupils’ behaviour is exemplary. They treat everyone with courtesy and respect those with different lifestyles and backgrounds.”
  • The school has an AGS Life Programme, recognising that students need to develop practical skills to equip them for adulthood. All Year 7-13 pupils have weekly sessions on topics such as cooking healthy meals, first aid, changing a tyre and personal safety.
  • Sixth-form bursaries are available for students experiencing financial struggles and can cover compulsory school trips, book purchases and university visits.
